When an incident happens in a populated area, like an earthquake, tornado, or active shooter, time matters. Traditionally, an Operations Officer would spend hours calling down a list to check on personnel. With Mustr, that process takes minutes.
By sending out a quick broadcast, status check, or even an RFI through Mustr, you’ll immediately gather responses from those who are safe, allowing you to focus your attention on anyone who’s missing or in need of assistance.
Making the Most of Mustr During an Emergency, Drill, or Recall
Send a Broadcast or Request for Information (RFI)
Start by sending out a broadcast or RFI to alert your team about the incident or recall.
Select the team you're responsible for alerting.
Write a clear, concise subject line; it appears in text messages, so make it count.
Mark the message as URGENT so it gets noticed right away.
Add the message or the specific information you need from recipients.
Tip: Don’t set a deadline. Doing so prevents users from responding once that time passes.
Send a Reminder
If not everyone responds right away, use reminders to follow up quickly.
You can:
Click “Remind All” to message everyone who hasn’t replied yet (app + text users).
Or, go to specific “buckets” (like Delivered) and click the bell icon in the bottom right corner to send reminders just to that group.
Keep Information Accurate: Respond on Behalf of Others
Sometimes, team members can’t respond directly, maybe they’re in a SCIF or without access. You can record their response for them.
Here’s how:
Search their name in one of the delivery buckets.
Tap the box next to their name(s).
Tap Bulk Actions, then Answer on behalf of members.
Tip: Only answer on behalf of multiple people if their responses are the same. For example, if three people are okay but one needs help, update the one that needs help separately.
Reach Out to Non-Responders
If someone still hasn’t checked in, it’s time to call or text directly.
From their profile in Mustr, you can:
Call or text them straight from your phone, or
Use their listed number to reach them from your desk phone.
Once you’ve heard back, log their response in Mustr by answering on their behalf.
Export and Share Results
When you’re done, export the response data to share with leadership or other teams.
Tap Send Report at the bottom of the message details. The export arrives as a CSV file sent to your registered email. On the second tab, you’ll find helpful pivot data, including timestamps, to track response progress.
After the Event
Once the event is complete, consider sending out a Status Check or offering support resources.
This helps identify anyone affected by the event and ensures they get the help they need.
