How to Respond to a Mustr Message via SMS Text (No App Required)

Learn how to utilize AOK Mustr Messages (RFI, Broadcast, and Status Check) as an SMS text user.

Updated: August 2025

You don’t need the Mustr app to respond to requests (though we recommend it for the best experience). If you're set up as an SMS-Text only user, you can still receive and respond to Mustrs, like RFIs, status checks, and broadcasts, directly through your phone's web browser.

What is a Mustr Message?

Your command uses AOK: Mustr to send out important check-ins, updates, or data requests.

Check Your Text Message

When your command sends a Mustr, you’ll receive a text message that looks like this:

This link is unique to you and secure. Tap it to open the Mustr in your phone’s web browser.

Complete the Mustr in Your Browser

Depending on the type of Mustr, you’ll see one of the following:

Type of Mustr

What You’ll See

What You Should Do

RFI (Request for Info)

A form with questions and possibly file upload fields

Fill out all required fields and submit

Status Check

A simple question (e.g., “Are you ok?”)

Tap your answer (Yes or No), then submit

Broadcast

An announcement or message

Tap Acknowledge after reading all attachments

EXAMPLE OF AN RFI MUSTR:

To submit the Mustr, click on "Submit Response" or "Acknowledge", the exact message will vary depending on the type of Mustr.

Once you complete the Mustr, you'll see a confirmation screen.

What Happens If the Message Expires or Is Deleted?

If you tap the link in the text message after the Mustr has been deleted or has expired, you'll either see an "Invalid Link" or "This message has expired" message on your phone's browser.

This means the Mustr is no longer active, and you won’t be able to submit a response.

Things to Keep in Mind:

  • If the Mustr has expired (but wasn’t deleted), app users may still be able to view and respond to the Mustr in the AOK app.

  • A team lead or admin (Org/Lead role) can still respond on your behalf, even after the Mustr has expired. Reach out to your unit admin if you missed the deadline.

Do I Need the App?

Not at all! That’s one of the advantages of AOK. You don’t need to download or manage another app to stay connected. As an SMS-text only user, you can complete all Mustrs directly through your phone’s web browser.

However, we do recommend using the AOK app if you want:

  • Faster access and real-time push notifications

  • The ability to view and track past Mustrs

  • Tools to manage your profile and assigned tasks

  • The ability to review past messages and attachments

  • Access to the bulletin board

You can switch to the app at any time. Simply download it from the App Store or Google Play and sign up.

Not Receiving SMS Mustr Alerts?

If you're not receiving texts or your responses don’t seem to go through:

  • Make sure you have cell service or wifi

  • Try submitting again

  • Check your text message inbox for our number 833-949-3191, perhaps it was filtered into Spam or you typed "STOP" by accident
