Required Reading Playbook

For Admins, Department Heads, or Training Officers Using Mustr

Updated this week

If you’re responsible for managing required reading (such as check-in materials or command instructions), this playbook shows you how to use AOK to streamline that process including setting up new personnel, posting reading assignments, collecting acknowledgments, sending reminders, and tracking who’s read what.

Required Reading Use Cases Supported in Mustr

You can use Mustr to manage required reading in multiple ways:

  • New User Check-in: Assign reading during onboarding and ask for acknowledgment

  • Bulletin Board: Post notices that require reading and acknowledgment

  • New Team Creation: Set up a Processing Group team and guide them to read and acknowledge material

  • Recurring Reminders: Schedule regular Mustrs that prompt users to check the Bulletin Board

Example Scenario

You’re the Training Officer at Command Example.

You have a group of five new check-ins who need to complete required reading.

You:

  • Create a Team for “New Check-ins – August 2025”

  • Post Required Reading in the Bulletin Board, such as:

    • Welcome Aboard Packet

    • Local SOPs

    • Safety Notices

    • Expectations of Conduct

  • Use the Acknowledge Button feature so personnel can confirm they've read each item

  • Send a Broadcast or RFI to that team, with a welcome message and instructions to read and acknowledge the Bulletin Board items

  • Schedule a recurring reminder (weekly or bi-weekly) via Mustr Message to that team, prompting them to check and complete required reading

Step-by-Step: How to Use Mustr for Required Reading

Step 1: Post Reading Material in Bulletin Board

Navigate to the Bulletin Board and tap on the plus icon in the lower right.

Tap Create new post

Title your post. For this example, we titled it Check-in Packet.

Add your message and toggle on the Require Acknowledgement Button.

Tap Next.

Review your post. Then tap Post.

View your post on the Bulletin Board. Now, when personnel view the post, they’ll be prompted to acknowledge that they’ve read it.

You can also click on the vertical dots in your post and edit your post, delete your post, or open status report to get details about your post and member interactions.

Step 2: Create a Team for New Personnel

Follow the steps in this guide to know: How to create a new team

Once you're created your team, come back to this playbook and continue from here.

For this example, we created the team Processing Group – Sep 2025. Once your team is created or while making your team, add new check-ins.

Once your team is created, tap on the three vertical dots next to the team's name. This will pop up more options.

Tap Send a Mustr.

Send a Broadcast.

In the Broadcast, you can welcome them and point them to the Bulletin Board.

Let them know which items they must read and acknowledge.

Tap Send when your message is complete.

Step 3: Track Acknowledgments

At this time, you can’t bulk action based on acknowledgment status or by delivery bucket, but this feature is coming soon.

Until then:

  • Manually check each post to see who’s acknowledged

  • For tighter control, consider sending an RFI asking personnel to confirm what they’ve read

  • Use the Tracker option in RFI to pull into an excel sheet for efficient tracking

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:

  • Use short, clear post titles for easy skimming

  • Include due dates in your messages if acknowledgment is time sensitive

  • Consider breaking up long reading assignments into separate sections for better tracking

  • Keep your Processing Group team organized by month or cohort
