Using Mustr effectively can cut down the time for a recall by hours.
Assume an incident occurred in a population center... i.e. an earthquake, tornado, or active shooter
A commander orders an Operations Officer to inform and perform recall to unit members and verify if any personnel needs assistance as a result of the incident.
Using Mustr to send out a notice will gather responses from those who do not need help quickly and let you focus on those who are missing or need assistance faster.
Making the most of Mustr features in the face of an emergency drill, incident, or recall:
1. Send a broadcast or RFI to announce the incident/recall.
Choose the team you are responsible for alerting.
Provide a succinct subject that will show in the body of text messages.
Mark the message URGENT to make sure people know it's important.
Fill out your message or request for information.
TIP: Do NOT set a deadline. This will stop users from being able to respond after the set time.
2. Send a reminder to make sure everyone is getting the message.
You can choose to click "remind all" which will send a text message to everyone who has not responded to your message (including those who are app users or those who have seen your message but not responded yet)
Alternatively, you can choose specific buckets like "Delivered" to send a reminder to this group only by clicking into the bucket and hitting the bell button at the bottom right of the screen, and confirming.
3. Keep things accurate: Answer for others who reach out through other methods.
Some people are unable to respond (maybe they are in a SCIF). You can respond on their behalf and keep your team up to date on the recall progress in the app.
Search for their name, click the box next to their name(s), choose bulk actions, and then choose "answer on behalf".
TIP: Only answer on behalf of multiple users if their answers are the same. If three people are okay but one needs help, update the one that needs help separately.
4. Call or Text those who have not reached out or responded.
You can choose a bucket of those who have not received the message or responded and click on the individual's name to see their profile.
Here you can choose to call or text them directly from your phone, or if you are on a computer you have the number right there to call from your desk phone.
Once you get their response, you can answer on their behalf too.
5. Export the response details to share and pass up the chain
The export will send a CSV file to the registered email of the requestor.
Exports include pivot data on the second tab of the CSV file including time stamps.
Following an event, you may want to send out a Status Check or offer support services.
After announcing the incident, send a Status Check to identify and attend to impacted service members.
